Cobweb antenna

Post by VK2DEK » Fri Feb 16, 2018 9:04 pm

Hi All
A few members were interested in the cobweb antenna, I have not completed it yet but the last few days have improved it and done some tests. the antenna like all antennas is height affected but funny enough seems to show reasonable figures at 3 meters up.
To explain the figures the analyzer I use is a MFJ the left hand column is the MAIN setting that comes up when you turn the unit on
The right hand column is the resonance mode which you tune for the lowest X figure giving resonance frequency.
After changing the antenna from last tests to try to improve it I first put it up at the last test height about 4.2 meters that is the first group of numbers.
Then moved it up to 5 meters then down to 4.5 meters and finally to only to 3 meters up, when you study the figures it dose not look to bad at the lower height.
On the 15th I made some more adjustments to improve the 24mhz which came up better but it seems as you change one band it affects some of the others. I guess still some work to do but it looks as if could be ok.

Wow, it really does look like a Hills Hoist.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Are you using an antenna tuner?

Only need a tuner on 20m & 17m at the height of 4 meters up higher it will show better figures and might not.
